Cal Poly Pavilion Structure Open House

December 8 |12:00 pm PST

Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED)

Thirty-six students, working in eight teams from Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED), will present their final designs during a public open house event on Sunday, December 8 from noon to 4pm at the Botanical Gardens in San Luis Obispo. The best design will be awarded to the team in a ceremony that afternoon beginning at 3pm. Students will begin building the mobile structure in Spring 2020.

The winning team will be announced at 3pm during the event. Refreshments will be provided.

The pavilion will be a temporary fixture at the Saucelito Canyon Tasting Room and will feature educational exhibitions produced by the Wine History Project including objects from the Wine History Project’s collection of historic wine tools and equipment. The pavilion will be moveable, allowing it to be displayed at different locations throughout the county. The pavilion will be able to be set up outside or indoors at vineyards, exhibit halls, parks, festivals, and other public spaces.

The project is headed up by three Cal Poly faculty members: Margaret Kirk of the Architecture Department; Dennis Bashaw of the Architectural Engineering Department; and Gregory Starzyk of the Construction Management Department.
