Big news – a partnership between the Wine History Project and the Benito Dusi Historic Ranch and Vineyard. Sylvester is the patriarch of five generations of the Dusi family in Paso Robles and Templeton. Sylvester planted this historic Zinfandel vineyard 99 years ago and it is now one of the iconic heritage vineyards in San Luis Obispo County recognized by the Historic Vineyard Society (HVS) of California. Five generations have worked in this vineyard. Janell Dusi, fourth generation, established her own winery in the early 21st Century which produces wines labeled with family history and legends.

Benito Dusi (1933 – 2019) Zinfandel Grower

Above all else, Benito was a beloved member of the Dusi family, the youngest of the three Dusi brothers and a member of the second generation of the famous grape-growing family. This is the only family of growers in San Luis Obispo County that has had five generations raising and harvesting grapes. Only two members of the family have made wine commercially – Benito in the 1950s and his grandniece Janell in the 21st century.
