At the March 2018 Food History meeting Christine Maguire gave a talk about local cheese making, past and present, in SLO County. Christine & Jim Maguire are owners of Rinconada Dairy at 4680 W Pozo Road Santa Margarita, CA 93453. Rinconada Dairy was founded in 1999 to create handcrafted sheep milk cheese from eight East Friesian ewes and one ram sired by a national champion.  Over the years they have expanded to include Nubian goats for mixed milk cheeses and added Lacaune sheep genetics from France. Heritage pigs were added to consume the whey from the cheesemaking. Rinconada Dairy also has both meat chickens and various breeds of layers producing colorful eggs.

Libbie Agran also gave a talk about A. B. Hasbrouck who had a goat cheese operation around the turn of the 20th Century up above what is now Lake Lopez in Arroyo Grande.
