Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860 – 1941) is one of the most famous celebrities in San Luis Obispo County wine and music history. He is most famous as a polish composer and musician who performed throughout the world. He toured in the United States from Los Angeles to San Francisco to New York and all the communities in between with sizeable Polish populations. He continually raised funds for the Polish people. He became the worldwide ambassador for Polish Independence. In 1919, he was appointed the first Prime Minister when Poland became independent; he signed the Treaty of Versailles which ended World War 1. He also visited Paso Robles’s healing hot springs to improve his health. He purchased two ranches in the Adelaida region, west of Paso Robles. He planted Mission, Zinfandel and Petit Sirah grapes as well as orchards and gardens. His first award-winning wines were made at York Brothers Winery in Templeton. He won the gold medal at the California State Fair in 1934

The Festival begins on Friday, November 4 at the Park Ballroom (1232 Park Street, in downtown Paso Robles) with a program of woodwind music presented by the Cracow Golden Quintet, an ensemble of exceptional young soloists who have concertized and recorded throughout Europe. In addition to two well-known works by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, music by three outstanding neo-classical Polish composers—Grażyna Bacewicz, Wojciech Kilar and Tadeusz Szeligowski—will be played. The wine reception begins at 7 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m

The 2022 Paderewski Festival will continue on Saturday, November 5, in the historical ballroom of the Paso Robles Inn with two very attractive programs. Winners of the 2022 Youth Piano Competition will be showcased in their 4 p.m. recital. Aged 10-18, the competitors in this year’s Junior and Senior divisions will present their repertoire to the assembled audience of family, friends and Festival concertgoers. The award ceremony will directly follow the young pianists’ appearances. This concert has been traditionally free and open to the public and it remains so this year.

The 2022 Paderewski Festival Gala Concert will feature virtuoso pianist Jakub Kuszlik, winner of the Paderewski and Chopin International Piano Competitions in the evening.  Highlights of Maestro Kuszlik’s program will include Paderewski’s Polonaise,Légende and Cracovienne fantastique, and Bacewicz’s Second Piano Sonata, as well as Chopin’s Scherzo in E major and his monumental Piano Sonata in B minor. The Gala Concert sponsor, Epoch Winery, will provide a wine reception at 7 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.
