The San Luis Obispo County wine industry comes together annually to honor members of the local wine community. These awards recognize dedication, stewardship, innovation, and leadership demonstrated in the County. The 2025 San Luis Obispo County Wine Industry Awards go to – Wine Grape Grower of the Year, Aron Nevarez; Winemaker of the Year, Molly Bohlman; and Wine Industry Person of the Year, Christopher Taranto. In addition, the San Luis Obispo County wine community recognizes Libbie Agran, historian, archivist, and the visionary founder of the Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo County, with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The UC Davis Library — home to the world’s most comprehensive wine research collection — is now the steward of a unique archive donated by Central Coast wine historian Libbie Agran and the Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo County. The donation, which includes $250,000 to support long-term preservation and access, ensures that the stories, culture and contributions of one of California’s most distinctive wine regions will be shared with generations of students, scholars and thousands who live and work in wine regions throughout California.

In 2015, Libbie Agran established the Wine History Project to create a timeline of the history of local viticulture and winemaking to share with the public…. to study the land, microclimates, grape varietals, growers, and winemakers who have shaped the wine history of San Luis Obispo County. Today, the Wine History Project continues to document and preserve the unique wine history of San Luis Obispo County and presently has a Wine History Gallery in the Paso Robles History Museum.

The Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo recently announced the upcoming screening of The Amphora Project — Past Forward at the SLO International Film Festival. The film, features seven county winemakers, six from Paso Robles, who are using amphorae in their winemaking process.

The Amphora Project – Past Forward tells the story of how modern winemakers, including many in SLO County, are using a winemaking technique that dates back over 8,000 years.

The Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo County is selected to showcase documentary films for two years in a row– The Wine History Project of San Luis Obispo County has announced the premiere of its second of many upcoming documentary films, Tom Myers: Made in Paso. The film documents over four decades of the winemaker’s career, his commitment to the craft, contributions to the region’s wine industry, and the people he’s worked with.

Established in 2015, the Wine History Project is staffed by historians and museum professionals who collaborate with a diverse group of individuals to document and preserve the viticultural legacy of San Luis Obispo County. Central to this mission is the process of interviewing influential growers and winemakers, whose testimonies augment archival photographs, documents, videography, and recordings to tell the expansive story of SLO County’s wine history.
